La Cocina
San Francisco, CaliforniaAward-winning gourmet foods from low-income entrepreneurs supported by La Cocina.
Contact UsLa Cocina was founded to serve as a platform for low-income entrepreneurs launching, formalizing or expanding their food businesses. We believe that a community of natural entrepreneurs, given the right resources, can create self-sufficient businesses that benefit themselves, their families, their community, and the whole city. The food that has come out of this kitchen since 2005 reflects that aspiration and hard work, quite simply, tastes amazing.

Foodmaker Courtney Dougherty started her business while tinkering in her tiny San Francisco apartment with family baking recipes. Her goal? To create a moist, flavorful banana cake. Each tote-able cake is baked in a reusable glass jar with a pewter lid. Her custom baking methods keep the cake fresh and the special hand-designed jars help seal in the moisture. These cakes are perfect for dinner parties, wedding receptions, bridal showers or holiday treats."La Cocina was born out of a belief that a community of natural entrepreneurs, given the right resources, can create self-sufficient businesses that benefit themselves, their families, their community, and the whole city."
